The philosophy behind organic |

Why go organic? Why not go organic should be the question. Organic farming and organic food is not a "New age" or trendy position, on the contrary, Organic practices are the practices of our grandparents and many many generations before. The whole concept of an organic lifestyle is the idea of not wanting to eat, breath and generally expose yourself, your family and you pets to unnatural chemicals, pesticides and poisons. There are varying levels to the organic farming movement. Basically they can be broken up into 3 tiers; Sustainable Farming Sustainable agriculture refers to the ability of a farm to produce food indefinitely, without causing irreversible damage to ecosystem health. The key points are for the long-term effects of various practices on soil properties and processes essential for crop productivity. Grape farming, for instance, takes nutrients from the soil, but with careful planning (cover crops, limited irrigation, etc.), the ground can remain bountiful.
Organic Farming Going a step further, organic farming has standards set by almost every country (and each state in the U.S.) with California leading the way. Organic farming forbids the use of any insecticides and generally requires the land be farmed to organic standards for at least three years before being certified organic grown.
Bio-Dynamic Farming Biodynamic is a science of life-forces, recognition of the basic principals at work in nature, and an approach to agriculture which takes these principals into account to bring about balance and healing. Bio-Dynamic farming predates the term "Organic" and is aimed at the big picture. Where "Organic" doesn't do any damage to the earth, Bio-Dynamic farming is designed to repair the earth.
